When I started my tour company, The Great Escape, I didn’t expect it to be so popular, but it turns out holy land tours are really trendy at the moment. I’ve seen unprecedented success, and I owe it all to my parents for giving me such a great idea – it’s been really liberating having my own business and being able to afford the little things in life.
In order to keep my knowledge about pilgrimages and things fresh and current, I make sure I travel to Israel at least three times per year and document my experience as I go on my blog – it’s really popular. I’m pretty meticulous when it comes to documentation, so my customers keep coming back because I give them the best and the most up-to-date advice.
Sometimes I have to employ people, and when I do, I put them through a very strenuous (yet rewarding) recruitment process to make sure I’m hiring the best of the best. Some people ask why I do this, but I just say it’s character-building – people who use my services want their trip to be perfect because it’s a religious trip, so it’s really important my employees have excellent information on things like Catholic pilgrimage.
I work a lot, but I like it that way. It means I get to save up for my trips all over the world, and use them wisely. I’m always working even when I don’t realise it – I’m either making mental notes about how to improve my business, networking, or making friends in high places – it’s just how I roll.
